ABOUT BYRON SHIRE

Byron Shire covers 566 km² on the far north coast of New South Wales at Australia's most easterly point, 153° 39´ east. It is located 180km south of Brisbane and 800km north of Sydney. The main income of the shire is sourced predominantly from tourism and agriculture. The shire has a population of approximately 30,000 with 1.7 million tourists visiting the shire each year.

The Byron Shire is famous for its beautiful beaches, rural beauty, relaxed lifestyle and its writers, artisans and filmmakers. It boasts a fabulous climate with temperatures of 20°C - 28°C in summer and 15 °C - 21°C in winter.

Byron Bay has a lively calendar of festivals and events including the Byron Bay Markets run on the first Sunday of each month at Butler Street, across the railway tracks from the main part of town. Byron Bay Market is a social and cultural hub of the community with well over 300 market stalls with a focus on locally made goods and produce. For those after organic and local produce try the Byron Bay Farmers Market held every Thursday morning from 7.15 am in the same locale.
